I worded it to not be a literal recount of all the game's events, but the building of your party one by one is great, with you saving Paula, and Jeff saving you (that entire segment is magical in itself). I will concede that Poo is a weak character though, he doesn't have a real arc tied to him in the main story. Ignoring his introduction, he basically leaves to come back and one-shot the reincarnated Master Belch/Barf, which at best makes him just feel like a reliable party member.

>"chaotic and malicious world" which isn't portrayed well at all
>Objects that shouldn't move suddenly come to life
>Creatures that are alive becoming violent
>People in towns randomly jumping you (one guy I encountered did nothing but try to feel me up, it was weird)
>The entirety of Moonside (and Everdred's death being tied to discovering it)
>The cult manipulated by Giygas' Mani Mani Statue to kidnap and sacrifice Paula by making her pussy blue
>The literal undead in Threek not only taking over the town, but luring Ness & Paula into a trap to capture them
I get that the game isn't having characters explain everything directly, but it's not that hard to get invested in the journey of undoing Giygas' corruption while experiencing small story arcs that slowly scale in stakes as you progress further. If we wanted to be reductive like that, Undertale's only events that matter are the beginning and end as well, but the bonds you build with those characters on your journey are what make the True Pacifist ending so satisfying (and Genocide so painful), and likewise Earthbound asks the same of you to be invested in that journey so that the payoff itself is something to behold. It's why it asks you for your real name (not Ness' name) twice, to make sure that when it says YOU are praying for them in the final battle, it knows you mean it.
