I'll explain to your Gender Studies major mind how machines work. Warpstone is not the same thing as electricity, it's a power source. The energy within a power source gets converted to electricity with a generator due to electricity being an easily transportable form. Most of the time, electricity isn't directly useful (though something like the Warp Lightning Cannon uses it to be directly useful and it proves that the Skaven can harness electricity), so the electricity gets sent to another machine to make that machine convert the electricity into a directly useful form.
