>I played silent hill and I liked it very much and I pretty much never played survival horror games before
Very nice.
I'm an oldass survival horror boomer who started with THE Resident Evil 1 back in the 90s, and SH1 instantly blew it out of the water.
Which ending did you get? Did you replay it yet?
>what are the others entries worth checking out?
All the OG team's classics: SH2, 3 and 4.
The OG versions of course. The DEmake 2 was utter feces, no sugar coating it.
You should obviously also give the OG, classic RE1-3, Dino Crisis 1-2 and Fatal Frame 1-3 a shot, if you like this play style.
>I'd like to try downpour since I heard it does kinda its own thing
No.
FUCK no!
That TRASH is THE absolutely worst piece of shit EVER to be released with the SH's title on the box. There's ZERO (0) redeeming aspects whatsoever. And I say this as someone who even gave SH Homecoming a second chance (it's still no good).

>Breakdown some of the other games like the room etc
SH1 > 2 > 3 > 4 > SM > Play Novel > > > SH2-Demake > HC > 0 > DP > BoM.
SH1 is my all time favorite, with all around the best package.
-Largest, most interesting and varied town sections.
-Best pacing out of the whole series; the starting sections of 2-3 really grind people's gears.
-Great, varied major locations (School, hospital, sewers...)
-Better enemy and boss variation, all of 'em are fairly dangerous
-Nicely balanced difficulty, both action & puzzles.
-Scary as fuck, full of mindfuck parts as well
-Great visual design, full of small details.
-Awesome soundtrack and audiowork in general.
-The most replay value thanks to all the optional / missable areas, "side quests", and the more strict requirements for different endings.
SH2 was one of THE PS2 flagship titles, and it has a huge place in my heart.
It's a tad overrated, but still a magnificent ride to this day. I wouldn't start it without beating SH1 first, as it kinda sets up many "expectations" for the journey, unironically aiding the sequel's experience.
3 is peak PS2 game when it comes to visuals, animation and acting.
It looks and sounds gorgeous, not that the past two would've ever been ugly exactly.
It's a bit too linear for my taste though, with the least endings and all that, but at the same time it can be the most challenging of the three, and definitely amped up the nightmare fuel vibes.
Up to you whether its ties and continuation from the OG game were needed, but people seem to like Heather.
4 was the OG "black horse". It was rushed by the publisher, on top of being TS' most experimental title from the get-go.
Contrary to the ANCIENT meme, it was ALWAYS meant to be an actual Silent Hill game, confirmed by TS already 2 decades ago. They just never wanted to repeat neither content nor a formula, over and over again.
I have vivid memories of greatly enjoying 4. Definitely one of the spookiest games ever made. It's just half-baked.
