I think he gave up on being a shark because he always made a fool of himself when he tries and it's very obvious which shark jet was because he is so fat.

I think the image of him with the chat saying he wishes Jin would hit him is really striking a nerve this season since he's told Daniel he'd kick his head in and yelling at Freddy that it's his show.
