It's legit like sitting at the feet of a master who doesn't care if others follow in his footsteps. If I copy that style, do I have my own? If I borrow his symbols, do I lose my own? I'm no Dunning-Kruger casualty, but it feels like acknowledging a pit exists and finding out it's the Mariana Trench.
I will suffer my beta readers the shit writing I do, I will publish ze novel, but I will do it knowing there are more books written than words in my novel that would serve the reader better.
