I get they're proud of what they thought was gonna be great, but stubbornly ignoring that people fucking hate it is just asinine. Even if not *Everyone Always* runs into the issues, enough are to at least tweak the numbers to be less strict. Tweaking numbers is easy for something like this, even with their fucking spaghetti code.
This feels like just more of bhvr trying to force people to play a singular way.

As for regular hiding; if you can't find any survivors that's on you, not the game mechanics not forcing them to play the singular way that bhvr keeps trying to herd everyone towards.
