I don't really like the pair-up system or having to worry about breeding child units.
I don't particularly like the engage ring system and it makes my characters feel like they have an identity problem as it's more focused on the ring transformations than anything else.

I liked Path of Radiance because it felt like one of the last just straight forward FE games and stories. Maybe that's boring to some but to me that was peak. Radiant Dawn jumped the shark a bit but I still enjoyed that at the time for wanting more PoR style gameplay.

I don't dislike the 3DS era or the Switch era. But one thing I did find refreshing about Three Houses was that as far as battles goes, it wasn't too overly reliant on any one gimmick and the story felt like it leaned more on traditional FE than compared to the more campy direction of the 3DS games. Yeah I get 3H wastes your time with the monastery and the teaching your students gets old but I almost just want a return to a more standard "traditional" Fire Emblem, where there's no flashy battle gimmicks that have to mix things up drastically, no child units, no time traveling shenanigans. Thank you for reading my blog. I know many of you will probably think my opinion is dogwater, and that's okay. But man I just really don't care to worry about pair ups or breeding fucking kids and engage rings man! And it's frustrating because Engage and Conquest are used as the two examples of "peak" map design, but I just don't care for the mechanics in those games. I'm repeating myself. I respect their design. I thought they were fun, but they're not my favorite FE games.
