He has such a bad case of arrested development. I remember when I was in middle school and I wrote all my characters as having parents who were either dead or really shitty to up the drama, but as I got older and entered high school I realized how immature that mindset was and started to diversify my characters home lives. The only character with a good home life that we see are Dina and I guess Mike (whose parents might be alcoholics given they act the way Mike does when he's drunk).
