>apocalyptic extinction event happens in [current year] that basically makes ghosts real (you die and you become a ghost that just wants to go around haunting people)
>america slowly rebuilds and adjusts
>some tribalist/separationist assholes want the country to stay splintered
>assholes commit terrorist attacks to break up the country once more
>enter (Sam)
>you have to go on a “pilgrimage” and bring the country back together while fighting off the terrorists and helping people find a way to survive the extinction event
What “filters” people is Kojima’s obsession with fancy made up sci-fi lingo and his general “cringe” writing style, particularly when characters talk about the “Beach”, the “chiral network”, and the “Death Stranding”. Basically the Beach is some sort of alternate dimension, the chiral network is basically magical internet, and the Death Stranding is the apocalyptic extinction event humans are trying to survive. It’s not that complicated.
That said, the game does have a very unique tone in the way characters interact with you and how the game constantly segways back and forth between comfy slow paced gameplay and the occasional stress inducing scenario. To a normal person it just comes off as weird or schizophrenic writing but if you’re extremely autistic and/or depressed, this game actually feels almost therapeutic to play.
It’s okay if you get filtered, the game is intentionally designed to not appeal to everyone. Kojima had a very particular audience he wanted to cater to. If you’re not one of those people, that’s completely fine. Nothing to get angry about or shit up threads over

The jellyfish BT things in Death Stranding look kinda eerie when you first see them. They’re just these weird grotesque balloon creatures ominously floating in place in complete silence, and there’s dozens of them. It just makes a bit of an eerie image, which is funny because they’re actually not a threat at all and in fact are pretty fun to shoot. You can just take an assault rifle and a blood bag and pop them like balloons and collect the goodies they somehow got a hold of
