How far can you get on Linux without systemd or any Poettering software for that matter? There are plenty of non-systemd distros, but then they wind up pulling in derivatives like elogind anyway. Furthermore, trillions of packages will pull in Poetteringware like Avahi and libcanberra if you are not vigilant and opt out of them.
