I'm pretty sure that between this, Chinese cultivation fiction (if I understand it properly, it may be another extremely popular and common Chinese power fantasy fiction), and Japanese isekai, you have the same basic societal desires for escape, freedom, and glory when the reality is that most of the readers of this stuff are powerless bugs and well aware of the fact.
