are characters in films meant to have ordinary lives, conversations outside what we're seeing? or do they (and their actions/dialogue) only exist for a fleeting moment?
to get what i mean, when V shows up in V For Vendetta and does his whole

routine, is that something he has scripted, in his head? he goes around saying that?
