Nah people just want to bolster their own viewpoints by sharing them with others and that's most easily done through collective shared experiences. At least half of the people involved in the pro/anti AI debates are only involved because it gives them a platform to get immediate support from their peers. People genuinely interested in anything, from art to ethics, are a minority of the population.

A Lars show about him being a space captain is one of three potential spinoffs people were actually asking for back in the day.
