NASA has been very loud and proud about their spending on DEI. It cost them. They're being made an example of what happens to agencies that decide to make ideological warfare as their core mission instead of what the agency was created to do. Also Trump created the Space Force and wants more of the government's space programs shifted there, so some of what NASA was entrusted to do but neglected will be moved.
NASA needs to do a very deep cleaning of the ideological infection it has allowed to fester. It's a space agency, not a diversity advocacy group. Once they're able to clear all of that out and not just relabel it, then some of the money will come back. But we all know that won't happen. The science programs get cut because the DEI is sacrosanct. Those who turned it into an advocacy organization will happily destroy every trace of scientific research in NASA if it means they can keep some of the DEI going.
