Second, I'm quite fond of Magic Knight from Disgaea. The series has a few big boobed generics, but she always stood out to me.

About as well as a generic can be treated. She has been in every game and has gotten some nice buffs along the way, from elemental boosting abilities to her own set of elemental sword skills.

Technically she has no role other than just being playable in game, though one could say her actions on the field are what lead the story to continue.

Ys stopped being fun to me once it went all in on the party system. The older games still hold up well.
