Dunno, he felt like an idealistic kid who stutters when you own him with basic ass elementary school argument. When you read the comics and learn about his daddy issues, it all makes sense that he was looking for a father figure, and Shepard became that. I think his morality is the easiest to influence in ME1 and is still pretty malleable in ME2. You can't argue old timers like Wrex of Samara out of "genophage bad" or "muh code"
