I don't even tabletop, and even I can grasp this concept better than you. Special snowflake characters are characters who have ridiculous backstories, special powers, can overcome obstacles inexplicably, and are so antithetical to the world around them that it shatters all suspension of disbelief. A drow that wants to break away from the fetters of the Underdark isn't really "special snowflake." At worst, it's derivative. Specifically, of Drizzt. But never special snowflake.
