you should add a simple, circular shadow underneath the sprites to give some illusion of depth and make it seem like they're really present. Scale it automatically with respect to the size of the sprite. Nothing fancy. This will already make it look so much better
i know you blame inconsistent art so much but i don't think if you had a team of dedicated artist it would sell gangbusters (though it would sell more)
Your main problem is that at its core, the game is just StarCraft. There's no HOOK. "lots of units" is not a HOOK.
Also, niggas don't be playing no RTSs. Your HOOK could make the game more novel but at the same time approachable to modern gamers. Look at Nine Kings - it's an RTS-like game, but also deckbuilder with cards -- yes i know, deckbuilders are trite and gay, but my point is that it messes with the RTS genre. It's not a 1 for 1 copy of StarCraft.
RTSs with heavy micro (or even heavy macro) are also too nerdy for modern gamers, they could be streamlined. I don't mean "made stupid for casuals and normies", but, like - 9 Kings is not a retard-proof movie game where you win automatically, you still have to think and make important decisions to win. You just do it in less clicks.
For me personally, although i love the idea of playing RTSs (mostly due to a combination of nostalgia and love of the theme/setting of the games), actually playing them is tiresome because there's a LOT of actions and most of them are very very small in terms of meaning. Your victory is a combination of 999 factors of 0.01%, whereas I'd rather it be like 20 decisions per game sessions where each decision changes it 10% or negative 10% in my favor. Do you know what I mean?!?!
anyway congrats on the release
