Mudkip and zubat is an unstoppable combo in RSE since mudkips evos only fear grass and the bats shit all over grass types, don't need to catch anything else for the entire game
I usually use taillow for that instead though for the guts-facade keks

why are they so hard to get there? you need basically almost all games, including gamecube, to get them all. and in terms of usefulness or coolness most of them are lacking aside from tyranitar in gen III.
that being said post ur favourite johtomons in gen III if you have any. make a case for them why i should consider them.

I would have said gen III for that. Even then the first two generations aren't bad, a little awkward at times but pretty clean by Game Boy standards. That said their remakes are just superior so there's not much point in going back besides nostalgia.
