abyss is fun, but whether it's fun or not is overly subjective and not as relevant as you think. the reason I framed my statement the way I did is because it really boils down to reward vs effort. another thing to keep in mind the new league won't just be abyss and nothing else, so even if abyss is mid there should hopefully be other new content to make the overall league worth playing.
