so with mandatory conscription in a place that actually has conflict, you will lose a lot of soldiers
voluntary conscription has a net morale head start, you know what you’re doing, you know why, and you personally decided that it’s something worth dying for
Israeli’s grow up pretending, because they know they have to, so it’s all a larp when in reality they’re all hoping for the cushiest gig possible and officer placement in the IDF is insanely corrupt, they’ll put people that they don’t like on the front lines knowing full well they’ll probably die
IDF footsoldiers walk around like fucking elephants too, the problem with airstriking every single building before the dozers go through is that your terrain may as well be two feet of snow with how much mobility you’d have in a rubble pile
add to that Hamas’ home advantage and voluntary participation and the score is pretty even, air support is the only thing Hamas has to worry about
Israeli’s don’t escort their tanks either so APCs and Merkavas are sitting ducks if someone has the balls to climb on top of them, no one’s going to open the hatch just to get a bullet in the face or another IED airdrop
TLDR: no country with mandatory service has a strong infantry, you either play with skill or numbers and Israel is running out of both
