My counterpoint is that this is literally already what TPC is doing with their own card game and it's netting them more money than WotC despite the game itself playing like objective dogshit.
I say this as a lunatic who thinks YGO currently plays better than Magic. That's just how bad Pokemon TCG is (although admittedly Pokemon TCG is way better than both games in terms of making non-proxy deckbuilding affordable).

Like yeah it would probably net WotC a bazillion dollars but TPC would never agree to letting a direct competitor do the exact same thing they're doing.
