This really is the main takeaway for me. It was something that was cutting edge and subversive for world peace given the current time that it came out. It felt like they were tapping into this counter-cultural undercurrent that nobody in normiespace was even aware of. It was not only perfect for Adult Swim for that reason, it gave you the feeling of getting away with something by watching it.
The problem is now my grandmother knows what the term woke is. There is not a counter-culture you're tapping into, you're just making something that everyone else already has near constant exposure to. I mean, we live in an era where our biggest rap star is making songs called Heil Hitler and openly hating jews is seen as a good thing on most of social media. That's not to say that's what World Peace was about, because it wasn't, but the overton window has shifted so much that who can even care?
