the crux of the issue is modernist architecture, city planning and zoning. get rid of suburbs and ugly modern architecture and the problem goes away

in a traditional city you dont need a car. everything you need you can walk to. job, market, pub, theater, school, docter, friends and family, etc, all within 10 minute walking radius of your home. no cars, no traffic, none of that non sense. in cities like that, the middle class acts rich by wearing nice clothes and having nice hair cuts, because they're seen in their clothes walking around everywhere. a few nice suits and trip to the barber they can buy outright, its much cheaper than acting rich by buying some stupid lifted dodge ram bought on credit that they park in front of the shitty condo in the suburbs they rent
