Yes, and for the Americans it comes out of their salary by their own hand, unless you don't pay insurance, retirement etc. My point is that the big number looks impressive but when you compare what you can actually do with it, the story changes. It's just like comparing modern house prices and old house prices. Everything is 100x higher but the hours of work needed to buy a house is much worse. Simply comparing the bare number is meaningless
