If I were to write Sonic as flawed, I'd write him as a weak-willed asshole, not a "weak pussy".
That's exactly what he is, after all. He doesn't have the will to sacrifice, so he lives a life of self-serving and always defaults to his being in the right. The only reason it works in his favor is because the world/narrative/meta/whatever rewards him for it instead of punishing him. If we turn Sonic's world into something akin to the real world (Which is what you have to do if you want the story to be ACTUALLY inspirational), then Sonic's pretty much fucked.
