The old ones are low-brain fun. The story is most enjoyable in the first game where they obviously didn't have plans to bring Kratos back in the sequel, had an open-and-shut narrative about a traditional greek epic hero. Combat does improve by 3. Yes, DMC and Ninja Gaiden are better. We know. We agree.

NuGoW's combat is a bit more engaging, but uhhh, fuck you, watch cutscenes and walk-n-talk. Because everything had to be third person over the shoulder cinematic oscarbait in that era. God I hate Sony so much. Didn't even bother with Ragnarok.

Generations 4, 5, and 6 were the absolute peak of gaming.

7th gen, consolidation hits hard, game development becomes more corporate, publishers try for a wider audience. Plenty of good games still existed, but tons of major IPs had their absolute worst or most infamous entries here. Sonic. Ninja Gaiden. Bomberman. Duke Nukem. Diablo. Destroy All Humans. NiGHTS. Halo. Silent Hill. Sly Cooper. Megaman Xover was mobile, is that reaching?

8th gen was a fucking disaster for consoles. Thankfully the indie scene started to get really, really big then.
