you would be surprised. it can be so easy to dismiss one's personal mental mechanisms for these more abstract ways of functioning, but honestly i think it probably varies per-person, this is why i like to call it a spiritual framework. it has its minute inputs (changes in dissociative state, patterns of thought or feeling, ect) via personally-tuned mechanisms and meanings, and is used to interact with the greater spiritual ecosystem in ways other people can't

also i've used that technique before, but not with my soul, or i didn't see it as my soul at least, tho i don't use that technique anymore

i've been inviting spirits into my dreams. i don't usually dream of spirits, tho sometimes i do, it depends on my dissociative state at the time of sleeping. at my most hollow my dreams are very practical and vivid, more rational and less chaotically random. upon inviting the spirit before sleep, my dream for the first time included a seemingly omniscient, explicitly telepathic character. he otherwise just acted like a person, no interesting characteristics beyond that feature, but the presence of in-dream telepathy was enough to catch my attention
