But here it goes anyways. Late stage capitalism or rather a culture too heavily dependent on consumerism. There is a constant demand for entertainment, for satisfying immediate pleasure and then moving to the next thing. Companies get far more money over saturating the market than they would releasing a new entry every 40 years.

It´s a tradeoff, things are less special but people are constantly entertained and numbed so they can deal with their own existential dread.
