I have the same experience as you. Even at the end of act 1, I was able to buy that 880 rosary charm before heading out to the last judge just because I didn't want to lose my rosaries. Never used the charm lol.
I really only use tools once I'm fairly used to a boss moveset, that way they can power me through, as opposed to me just churning through shards every attempt.
I feel a pretty natural harmony with how the devs probably expected the player to act. This corresponds to me quickly finding maps, secrets, and benches too. I've watched a couple streamers, and they're generally very wasteful and disorganized, so maybe some people just aren't built for this game.
