The entire system of American wealth is built on the US maintaining the reserve- and petrodollar as the sole dependable currencies for these purposes. American wealth is built on the exportation of inflation and the irrelevance of national debt, because EVERYONE has to buy dollars to get either oil or a reserve currency. The entire global economy is dependent on US stability, so nobody can seriously oppose it without getting screwed over themselves.
To maintain these purposes, the US HAS to go to war and undermine anyone who wants to go against this.

It's not just the international system. At this point, the United States as a federation will de facto collapse if the United States turns isolationist.
