Add another ball, and they're both moving away from one another... yeah, but what if only one is moving? How could you tell? You couldn't.

Add a third ball... now we've got physics, baby. Now we've got recursive meaning. The third ball is the reference point through which the qualitative properties of the others are communicated via causal mechanisms.
