NTA, but fandom is all that remains after a show is either put on hold, comes to an end or is outright discontinued. In some rare instances a persistent, active fandom might even have an effect of bringing a show back to life. But if there are no more people waiting for more of Gumball universe, Ben's luck with convincing execs to keep giving him more chances will eventually run out and even the movie might never see the light of day.

Just a guess, but maybe they are counting on prolonged hiatus to wipe away those memories so that the same idea can be made into an episode over and over again? Certainly it's much easier than writing brand new skits and experimenting with other characters.
