Basically, it seems like a major issue with the Mossberg 500 design is that if the weapon is dropped from two feet or more, the shell lifter will pop out of its retaining hole and jam the weapon. I've been told this is easily fixed by removing the lifter and pulling the arms apart slightly, like trying to break a wishbone. This causes enough tension to keep the lifter from ever popping out of its socket ever again. I've only ever had positive experiences shooting mossbergs, so this possible issue is a concern for me.

A question I don't see talked about more often is what is Russia going to look like in the aftermath of all this with hundreds of thousands soldiers who won't be able to reintegrate into society as a result of physical or psychological trauma? People like to make fun of how poorly the US handles veterans affairs, but the amount of broken men this conflict has already produced dwarfs the total casualties the US has suffered in every conflict since World War 2, and it has happened almost all at once in the span of 3 and a half years, with more to come. There's absolutely no way Russia will be able to match the safety nets provided by the US, which are already lacking. So what is going to happen when you have all these combat veterans roaming around the country with no future prospects?

Ukraine will surely have it's own issues in regards to this, but it will likely be bankrolled by the West ala Japan or South Korea, and their soldiers can take solace in knowing that they were fighting to protect their homeland. Russian soldiers will likely be more susceptible to feelings of pointlessness or wrongdoing that seem to be the reasons why so many veterans in the US go down dark paths.

We've already seen a few instances of Ukraine veterans in Russia snapping and killing people seemingly unprovoked. How bad will things get once it fully begins to dawn on many of them that this whole thing was a farce waged on behalf of some aging autocrat?

I actually accidentally started reading Howling Dark before Empire of Silence in Barnes And Noble because I thought it was the first book in the series. I thought it was some in media res shit, and that it was supposed to be confusing.
