22 here, I think I get what you mean. It feels like new fans don't actually analyze the characters, world, or story at all. They just worry about how the characters fit into certain ships or their headcanons of how that character is totally gay/trans/autistic. Also the "faux-quirky" sense of humor they commonly have is pretty grating, I am literally Dirk in this image.
