Same; I feel all of that. It really sucks because, well...I guess it means that all of those experiences (even at a Japanese NGO where I interned for a year) were more important to ME than to the people/institutions to which I was lending myself. I went to Akihabara for a few days at the end of 2010 (which was also the only time I've actually been to Japan), and that was the happiest time of my life. Can't replicate that now, with them having shut down the Gundam Cafe, the Sega Arcade is gone, and some other things as well...

Well, NEITHER IS N1, but it's understandable since it's a 'proficiency' test rather than a fluency one; bit of a setback that it doesn't test speaking and writing (absolute sine qua nons of language acquisition and use). I only had 2 friends who were chosen by Japan who have done JLPT; one passed N2 and I think the other (far more successful one) passed N1. But c'mon...
