Metaprogression has fuckall to do with roguelites.
"Roguelite" effectively just means "with roguelike elements".

It's a term for games inspired by roguelikes using roguelike mechanics, that still aren't actual roguelikes.
Like adding exp to call of duty doesn't on its own make it an rpg. It's an rpg element. Adding first-person shooting to Zelda doesn't make it a first-person shooter, it's an FPS element.

Adding randomization or even perma death to a game does not make it a roguelike. It makes it a roguelite, unless it's actually a roguelike.
You can have a roguelite with -no- metaprogression and it still wouldn't make it a roguelike. What makes a roguelike has never been contingent on metaprogression.

Why do people absolutely refuse to call games that clearly aren't roguelikes, roguelites?
There is no shame in a game being a roguelite. It just means it has roguelike elements and inspiration even if it's not a roguelike. Why do people refuse to?
