Azure Dreams.
Your character lives in town with a huge monster tower that adventurers from far and wide travel to in order to try their luck at riches and fame that can be claimed from within.
Your character inherits a monster from his father who passed away in the tower. And with this, after having come of age, you try your luck at the tower yourself.
The floors of the tower are procedurally generated. And inside you fight alongside your monster companion that will act on its own, but you can give it commands every single turn of the game if you so wish so you've still got control. And you can also tell it to not act on its own anyway.
Inside you'll find tons of other monsters. And occasionally you'll find monster eggs. And through various methods you can even transform enemy monsters into eggs.
Whenever you leave, your player character will revert back to level 1 and lose all progress in true roguelike fashion. But it's true that your monsters will retain their levels unlike you. That's what makes the monsters special. But the interesting thing is that monsters are all limited by energy in ways that you aren't. So simply by walking around the tower they'll tire, and when they use special moves they'll tire even faster. And when their energy is gone, they become useless. So having monsters never means the game stops relying on the player character. In fact, for success you should try to rely on them as little as possible.
But when you leave the tower, you can hatch the monster eggs you retrieved from the tower. This gives you new companions that you can bring with you to the tower. And when you return, the tower floors will all have been randomized, and you'll have to try to level up all over again.
Really cool game.
