I think you're overgeneralizing the incompetence of your predecessors. Engineering, especially software engineering, is not necessarily the occupation of galaxy brain individuals. Its just another white collar job, there are plenty of retards that got their degree and are just pushing paper; note that coding is just paper (it literally was on paper) pushing but with extra steps.
