>Gold and Silver was heavily prefered in the Western US over paper and base metals
>All but one of the people arrested for violating Executive Order 6102 lived in California
>Pennies and Nickels were exclusively minted in Philadelphia before the 1900s because there was no demand for them in the West
>Silver Dollars were strongly preferred in Western States and regularly circulated there up until the 60s, while Eastern States used banknotes
>The 1964 Peace Dollars were minted only in Denver and intended for use in Western States like Montana (before they were all melted down)
>The only pushback the coinage act of 1964 received was from Congressmen representing Western Silver producing states
>40% halves were only minted in Denver and San Francisco from 1968-1970, showing that the West's prefernce for Silver didn't die immediately after the debasement
>This preference for real money also extended into Western Canada
Interesting how a huge chunk of the country so strongly prefered Hard Money up until relatively recently and there is almost no cultural memory of that nowadays.
