My boyfriend grew up in the ghetto (no he's not black). He has a habit of shaming me over the media I enjoy, since I like cartoons and anime and stuff. He's told me that he winces over the shows I like and that he holds back "immense embarrassment" for me because back in the ghetto, everyone enjoyed mature content and cool stuff like Snoop Dog (I don't know if I'm spelling that right) by the time they were 5 or 6.
He also looks at me with disgust if I ever get upset over anything that isn't deathly serious since he saw so many dead bodies and deaths during his childhood. He's admitted to looking down on me due to my much easier childhood. "While you and other 'normal' kids were wanting Superman to save you from the monster under the bed or whatever, some of us were out there in the real world having real problems."
It feels like he judges me over a lot of things. We started dating in 2018 when I was 19 and he was 20. I asked him to teach me how to tie my shoes because I didn't know how, and he never let go of that. "When I was five years old I was fighting for my life in the ghetto, and you're almost 20 and can't tie your shoelaces?" He randomly dug it up again a few weeks ago. I was vulnerable with him and he's still criticizing me seven years later...
