You're probably right because it wasn't until 2012 that I began to notice things were really different. That was when Windows 8 came out and kickstarted that disgusting trend of minimalist flat color design. By that time, smartphones were officially a part of every day life as well, whereas back in 2008, it was still relatively niche. 2012 or 2013 was also when I began to notice that no one took privacy seriously on the Internet anymore.
