I thought their rivalry was a bit out of nowhere but now I get it, they simply had to have it in game because they turned a G2 race into an absolute barn burner, best G2 I watched so far.
This race also came right after Mayano won the Arima Kinen while Brian came 4th as the favourite, Mayano was on the rise and the old champion started to decline after getting arthritis, it just all comes together so well for a story.
Expectations for this pair must have been high for the next G1 too just for both of them to lose to Sakura Laurel.
