It removes the responsibility or need of the Uma or Trainer creating a reason to have purchased the tickets.
It's used as a trope all the time in international media. It maintains the status quo, where neither party has really revealed their feelings, they're just going to the Hotsprings with you because they were given the tickets and "have no choice".

It's similar to how disney/kids movie heroes never usually have to actually kill their villains, they can defeat them, but then something occurs that kills the villain for them, which removes the responsibility from the hero's hands. Or the asspull the writers of Dexter did, where he had to choose to kill Doakes or let him live and in either circumstance break his code, but then the english bitch shows up, kills Doakes and removes the responsibility and character progression to maintain status quo.
