So why did only this one character get genderswapped? Galactus still looks like the Lee / Kirby version. Johnny is still a guy, Ben is still a guy, Reed is still a guy, Sue is still a girl and they're all still white (or "white" in Pascal's case). If you were adhering to the look and setting of the classic comics why not not stick with the original Surfer, too?

It was an unnecessary change. They just couldn't play it straight and not get cute with something, and the Surfer was the one thing they had to fuck with, I guess. It's like they held a staff meeting in pre-production, someone pointed out that they hadn't race or genderswapped any characters and then they picked one at random to fuck with just out of principle because they always have to do it at least once.

Fans of the original comics remember Norrin being the Surfer in every significant storyline since 1960-whatever and 99.999999% of plebs have no idea Shalla-Ball ever existed so I ask again, who the fuck was this swap made to appeal to? How does it make the movie better or more marketable?

Yeah I'll acknowledge that they're operating on some unknown level and who knows how advanced their intelligence really is, but one thing that can't be denied is that they manufacture nothing except what can be produced by their own excretions. Which might be taken as a sign of just extreme self-dependence and not needing what they haven't got but at the same time, how impressed are we supposed to be by something whose entire repertoire consists of using its bodily fluids? The impressive things about them are all physical traits. I terms of intelligence, they *are* intelligent but it seems be like dolphin-level intelligence where they're smart but incapable of applying that intellect to anything beyond their immediate circumstances.

So, again, why are the engineers supposed to give a fuck? The Aliens are really good at converting whatever spaces they find into hives but they can't create the spaces. They require an external food source which they can't produce themselves. They can survive in the vacuum of space but will never learn how to traverse space because they adapt biologically and not intellectually. The Engineers can cross galaxies and manipulate the building blocks of life itself, I still don't buy that they looked at some parasitic organism whose offspring face-rape people to reproduce living in cocoons made of its own spit and thought "wow, this thing is clearly leagues ahead of us let's worship it." It's a retarded plot point by a retarded writer.
