Considering how most larva pupate, they'd have no reason to have 'grubscars' because they'd just liquefy and reconstitute as small humanoid trolls.
I always found it more interesting if, canonically, trolls looked essentially human besides the horns and skin and teeth and shit, but upon closer inspection they had weird subtle alien traits. Like their hair has an uncannily different texture because it's made of chitin rather than keratin.
Not to say I dislike seeing cool super alien redesigns, though. Those are always cool.
