Because Goku is rarely overpowered relative to his opponents. Only trash opponents like Nappa or the Ginyu Force.
In fact his enemies are usually stronger than him.
He was weaker than Raditz, Vegeta, and Freeza.
The first two he "wins" with outside assistance and he only beat Freeza with an asspull powerup at the last second after having outside assistance buy him time to heal from being beaten by fucking Ginyu.
He doesn't beat anyone after Freeza. The Androids, Cell, and Buu all kick his ass.

Yeah they hit Freeza with a giant spirit bomb and it didn't even hurt him. Buu is like 1000x stronger.
I mean maybe this spirit bomb was 1000x stronger because they got more energy for it, but it didn't look 1000x stronger.
It was just poorly handled.

Maybe if they had some line in there about how the spirit bomb was extra effective against Buu because he's a being of pure evil. I mean if it bounces off people with pure hearts then that would make sense to me.
