BOOM:
"And then you're on the ground here, asking for drone support for your troops, and you're told there's no money. From this perspective, infantry soldiers are being put at risk. They're cannon fodder. There's no other way to put it.""
The armored corps is feeling the strain as well.
"I served in an armored battalion that's part of a regular infantry brigade ranked high on the IDF's priority list," said a tank officer who spent several months in Gaza. "And even we were told at one point not to fire tank shells – unless it was the only way to solve an operational problem. Because of shortages."
"Our spare parts are in the worst condition I've seen during my service. We're missing pins and tracks – the basic components a tank needs to move. As for the tank engines, the army hasn't been following the required maintenance intervals based on engine hours since the war began – because they simply can't keep up with the repair demands."
A recent report in Haaretz on the impact of Germany's arms embargo on Israeli tank maintenance supports these claims.
