And yet people still missed the point, complained about the humans being there and wanted "nonstop episodic adventures with Spear & Fang" to become Primal's "brand".
It wasn't there to explain the theme, it was there to enforce it and make a fun episode in the process. It also made it clear that a big part of the show was about the pretentiousness of humanity compared to Spear's simple instinct-driven actions - the Viking Chieftain's biggest flaw was his constructed idea of fairness & ritualistic revenge.
