While fantasy books can be fun, you should really start by reading comparative religion and ritual practices. Keep in mind, the goal of learning about any religion (Christianity, Hinduism, etc) is not to submit to their teachings and convert, but rather to begin to think about spirituality in a meta sense.
From there, begin spiritual practices. Meditate, pray to whatever you feel comfortable to (and be okay with not receiving an answer), and ritual magical practices.
From there, you have a starting point for your journey.
Most importantly, this takes YEARS. Decades even. You're not going to be some guru or enlightened being in a just a year of doing it. Resist the urge to be egotistical about it and just keep working.
